  5. Why are there so many wine scams centred in Bromley?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Anon: A very good question Bromley does appear to have a surprisingly high level of wine investment 'expertise' .....!

  7. Anon. I have received your comment. Was away from Wednesday to Saturday early evening. Will follow this up asap.

  8. URGENT

    URGENT ATTENTION REQUIRED

  9. Many thanks anon. Please see my post on Bordeaux UK 7th November.

  10. Anon. Thank you for your repeated comments. I have certainly followed this up and am waiting for the person I need to speak to return from China.

  11. An elderly gent I know has invested money with Mon Charm & they are trying to persuade him to spend more. Are they definitely con artists? Or is that difficult for you to say?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anon. I would avoid any wine investment company that tries to persuade an elderly investor to spend more with them, especially if they are making frequent calls and putting him under pressure.

  13. Moncharm claims to have moved all its offices to Greycoat Place,
Near Victoria station. No longer in Bromley. Is this true and does it make them more plausible as a company?

    ReplyDelete

    1. They are certainly listed at 2 Greycoat Place. It is positive that their website lists the team as well as recent company accounts.

    2. I see the Terms & Conditions on the Moncharm site are not working at the moment.

  14. A potted communique with Moncharm;-
"To Richard Kingsley, Moncharm ltd. 1 Sept 2014
Thank you for the values summary.( of my wine investment with you)
    It is very sad reading.
I think you have to take stock of whether you are a good wine
investment adviser, given the degree of reduced value across the board. If all your advice has results like this I am amazed you are still in business.

These figures show a potential loss of £4,900 on an investment of £21,180. (over 3 years).
Poor showing on any market, especially one you said could give over 8% profit.
Even the most recent purchase has fallen a lot so you can not blame the crash. "

Dec 2014 still trying to sell. watch this space.
I have come round to accepting this scenario,
It would be good to get some money back ,
    but don't hold your breath.

    1. Without knowing what wines you bought it is impossible to be specific but the fine wine market has been falling for the last three years so a potential loss is not surprising I'm afraid. Look at the Liv-ex indices, which will confirm this.

Do you have to sell through Moncharm? Would it be worth trying other brokers/merchants, although it does illustrate that while wine is liquid in the bottle it is not necessarily a liquid asset.

    2. It would be interesting to know what you were told at the time you bought the wines.

  15. Here are the wines I have. And the prices we hope to get.

The prices Moncharm would currently market your wines for.

    1 x Ch. Haut Brion 2009 (6x75cl) £4,150
    1 x Ch. d’Yquem 2009 (24x37.5cl) £5,600
    1 x Ch. Pavillon Rouge 2009 (12x75cl) £1,080
    2 x Dom Pérignon 2004 (12x75cl) £1,000 x 2 = £2,000
    1 x Ch. Margaux 2005 (6x75cl) £3,450

    Any comments?

    1. Anon I am not clear whether these are prices that Moncharm quoted you in September or more recently. Certainly a look at wine-searcher shows that these prices are decidedly optimistic and would probably explain why your wines are still on sale.

Both the 2005 Margaux and 2009 Haut-Brion can be bought for £3000 per 6, although Berry Bros & Rudd show the Haut Brion at £4080. The 24 halves of 2009 d'Yquem ca be purchased for £3900.

  16. Do you think I should hold on and hope for a rise in the market?
With the euro maybe going funny again will the price fall further?
    ??? Any guesses...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm not going to try to guess the market. However, it should recover at some point so unless you need the money now it is probably best to hold on and monitor prices.

  17. How did you get on anon , I know someone with 80k invested with moncharm they recently requested to get out and moncharm said now is not a good time.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Keep saying the same to a family member of mine too. Not sure how much he has invested but it's over £20k. Does anyone ever get away from these people?

  19. hi. been contacted today by moncham trying to sell me wine. lets see what info they send

  20. I have been approached and looked into buying 6 bottles of CH Angelus for 1750 to store at their Fonthill Estate vault. is this a good buy, has anyone made money with Moncharm? please.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What vintage of Angelus please? Also were you cold called?

      Delete
  21. Having been too contacted by Moncharm from blank, cold calls from somewhere in England. They keep calling me, sending just basic brochure on the wines investissement market, but this is always copies of press announcements and general market results as Sotheby's auctions wine expanding market, but unfortunately not linked to the results of their own company, which annoys me a lot? They keep calling me with hard pressure to leave a deposit and make my mind, but I don't like this way to deal, having the bad feeling they are leading the deal, not me ! Quite persuasive, but bad feeling at the end
