Manor Trade Ltd: another company to avoid

Comments from Worldwide Wine Investments Ltd post (investdrinks)

I received a comment yesterday from someone who had been contacted by Manor Trade claiming that they could sell wine anonymous had bought from Worldwide Wine Investments Ltd:

'Anonymous: 22 May 2014 13:12

Just had a call from a company called Manor Trade, they claim to have got my details from the London Bond and claim that the wine I purchased from WWI is held there (and gave brief details that matched my purchase) and want to know if I want to sell it for a small upfront fee.

If genuine could be very good news, but unsure if a scam. Any ideas or anybody heard of Manor Trade (quick scan on internet shows several companies with that type of name and I need to look further)'

Anon. Highly unlikely to be genuine. Advance fee scam is more probable. MANOR TRADE LIMITED was founded in 2012 but looks to have been bought off the shelf in late March/early April 2014. You can be sure that LCB would not have given your details out more likely that the company has sourced your details through someone associated with WWI. Cold call is also a red light warning.'

Manor Trade Ltd was formed on 20th June 2012 but was a dormant company until early March 2014 when the registered office was changed to 55 Old Broad Street, London EC2M 1RX (serviced offices - accommodation address). The two directors are 59-year-old David Elliott and 56-year-old Robert Andrew Clarke. Both were appointed on 3rd March 2014.'

The police force investigating Worldwide Wine Investments Ltd has been informed. Anyone contacted by Manor Trade is advised to file a complaint through action fraud.

Update on Manor Trade Ltd 16.6.2014
I have been contacted by a man [says his name is Harry] from Manor Trade offering to sell some carbon credits that I was scammed into buying a couple of years ago by Dakota.
They want £1200 up front to sell these credits on 1/8/14 – the patter is very much similar to when I was originally scammed by Dakota [land banking and carbon credits]
I have given this person no info. about my credits yet somehow he seems to have been able to check them with ‘the register’ and come up with a value.
What should i do about this? – apart from a polite refusal.
Definitely an offer to be refused politely or otherwise. Then suggest you file a complaint through Action Fraud. May well be advance fee fraud. You pay them £1200 upfront and they never sell your carbon credits.

Further update (19.11.2014:

FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) issues warning:

Company return has been overdue since 18.7.2014.

  4. Both websites are in Breach of UK law as there is no registered no, also the address used is the registered address for companies made simple, they will not be happy as it is not to be used as a trading address

Jim I suggest you contact companies made simple as you have clout and also inform Companies Investigation for breach of not displaying there company number

unfortunately there is no law against writing rubbish

  5. The Insolvency Service are warning holders of investments not to have anything to do with Manor Trade as they may well be untrustworthy and scammers trying to get cash from holders of REEs saying that for a fee they will transact / sell your goods

  6. I have had a call from Manor Trade Ltd who claim to be able to sell my carbon credits to an oil company who need them for their carbon footprint.
My investment was for a lot of money and they have asked for a fully refundable deposit of £2250 by 13th June, 2014 to sell my carbon credits by on firstly 25th August and then a day later I was informed wow Good news the date had been brought forward by 4 days to the 20th August 2014.
I would make a £10,000 profit plus my deposit would be returned as well.
They assured me that the deposit went to the registry that the carbon credits are on and not to them but it all sounds like a scam . As I have had several peole contacting me over the past 12 months with similar offers.
So I checked them out on the web.
Not impressed and will not be parting with any money.
They are calling me again tomorrow to make sure I have made the money transfer for about the 6th time . They will be disappointed.

  8. I have just been completely taken for a ride with Aspire Commodities that worked the same way as Manor Trade. They knew i had wine, priced it and wanted to sell it in an auction that was happening in a week. They found me at a time that i wanted to sell out of everything. They have only just expired their website and suspended their phone. I feel like a prize idiot! Their should be a governing body for this sort of thing and other companies like LCB that have to do business with them when transferring wines into holdings they use should give warnings too. Keep up the good work with this blog. I should have read your site earlier. There really needs to be more governance in alternative investments....

  9. Anon. I'm very sorry to hear this. I assume you were persuaded to transfer your wine into an Aspire Commodities account which has now disappeared. Bonded warehouses, such as LCB, do decline to open accounts for companies they consider dubious. They can't, however, be expected to check all transactions. It may be that opening a trade account could be made more difficult to meet money laundering requirements but you could end up with making very difficult to open an account. Something some of the UK banks have managed!

  10. Actually it went into a Fine and Rare Wines company account which I mentioned to LCB who over the phone said it was normal to put the wines in an escrow account whole in auction.
