Nouveau World Wines: Five charged with fraud and money laundering

Five people have been charged with conspiracy to defraud and money laundering in connection with Nouveau World Wines that offered Australian wines as an investment, which allegedly did not exist. They have also been charged in relation to Finbow Fine Wines Ltd who allegedly promised quick profits in the Asia-Pacific drinks market.

The five are: Kelly Humphries, 30, of Wallington, Surrey, Simon Robert Dempsey, 42, of Sidcup, Kent, Daniel Thomas Snelling, 36, of Sutton, Surrey, Dina Snelling, 34, of Chislehurst, Kent, and Rebecca McDonald, 42, of Bexleyheath, south-east London.

The initial arrests were made in March 2010 in connection with a police investigation into Nouveau World Wines and Finbow Fine Wines Ltd.

The five accused will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on May 11.

  3. The original name of company number 05233815 was Infinite Rockall Services Ltd (a dormant company). It was acquired off the shelf on 1st January 2006 through SBC Accountants of High Street, Bromley, Kent and the company name was changed in June 2006 to Noveau World Wines Ltd.

The original director of the company was Scott Assemakis of Bromley, Kent, who was appointed on 1st January 2006. Scott Assemakis was jailed in April 2006 for 15 months.

Nevertheless, he continued to act as director of the company until August 2006. In May 2006, just after Scott Assemakis was jailed, Daniel Thomas Snelling was appointed as a director of the company.

From 1st January 2006 to 1st September 2008, the company secretary of Nouveau World Wines Ltd was SBC Accountants of High Street, Bromley, Kent, run by Leslie Arnold Geeraerts.

Today Scott Assemakis is currently the managing director of European Fine Wines Ltd in Bromley, Kent. SBC Accountants of High Street, Bromley, Kent was company secretary of European Fine Wines Ltd from 15th August 2005 to 1st July 2008.

  4. Anon. The case has been transferred for trial at Southwark Crown Court. The next hearing will be on 13th July. Presumably then it will become clearer when the case will be tried. It is customary for these cases to take some time to come to court.

To the anon who sent me further information I will pass this to the Met but as this trial is pending will not be posting these comments.

  8. Anon. I'm afraid I won't be at the court on 13th July. It is likely to be a short appearance possibly sorting out when the actual trial will start. The Court Service website has the times and which courtroom in Southwark Crown Court the hearing will be.
